生育の様子をお知らせします / The latest situation of our greenhouse

　ここ数日高知市内では15℃を切る日も出始め、試験ハウス管理も秋〜冬のものに変わりつつあります。昼間は最高気温も30℃を切り、遮光も開放しています。

今日のブログ担当は、ハウス管理を通して四季の移り変わりを感じております、試験農場担当の飯田です。

 The temperature gets under 15 degrees C sometimes in the last few days in Kochi.  Our management of the test greenhouse is turning to the autumn-winter way.

The maximum temperature in daytime doesn't become higher than 30 degrees C, and we open the shading sheets on the ceiling.

 Today's report is by Iida who is feeling the change of the season through the management of our test greenhouse.

　2018年オランダ産抑制栽培試験の品目数は、オリエンタル・OT・鉄砲で279品目 、LA・アジアティックで147品目の、計426品目と昨年より増えており、促成栽培に引けをとりません。

定植配置順についても品種区分・開花日順・色順で並んでおり、似通った品種を探し易くなっています。

 The number of the items which we test in this late-forcing trial of crop 2018NL is 426 in total; 279 of Oriental+OT+Longiflorum, 147 of LA+Asiatics.  It's not so much different from the early trial.
 The layout is designed to make it easy to compare the varieties placing in the orders of the hybrids, growing speed, and colors.

 2019年南半球産は1回目の定植が先週終わり、これから入荷があった品種を1週間ごとに定植予定です。

 We have finished the first planting of crop 2019SH trial last week, and we will plant the bulbs according to the arrival schedule once in a week.

生産者の皆様におかれましては、出荷や年末の作に向けお忙しい時期とは思いますが、令和元年の抑制栽培試験、是非お越し下さい！

 It should be a busy season for cut lily growers for the shipping and preparation for the shipment around the New Year's Day.

開花はじまりました。2018年オランダ産抑制栽培 / Started to bloom! The late forcing trial of crop 2018NL

高知もようやく朝晩は20℃を下回る気温となり、

人もユリも、過ごしやすい気候になってきました。

今年は例年以上に残暑が厳しかったですね。

The temperature drops down below 20 degrees Celsius at morning and night recently.

Severe heat remained until late this year, and it finally became much more comfortable for both humans and lilies.

★★2018年オランダ産　抑制栽培試験　★★

試験農場では、9月上旬に定植した18年オランダ産の抑制栽培試験（約400品種を栽培）が見ごろを迎えようとしています。

At our test greenhouse, the 18NL trial varieties (around 400 varieties) which were planted in early September will be in the best time to see soon.

極早生品種のマニフィークとサロニキはもう咲き始めました。

Some very fast varieties; Magnifique and Saloniki have already started to bloom.

今回の試験栽培は、定植日をほぼ同じ日に行っており、品種ごとに順次開花が進む予定ですので、11月から12月まで、早生・中生・晩生と見ごろが続きます。

大まかな予定は以下の通りです。

In this trial, the bulbs are planted about same time.  The growing speed of each variety differs, so the timing to see comes one after another depending on the varieties' growing speed.

The general schedule is as below.

抑制栽培では、長期冷凍による品種ごとの特徴が顕著に出ます。リン数や草丈、葉焼けや奇形の有無もチェックなど、

時期に合った品種や最適な球根サイズ選びに、ぜひお役立てください。

The differences of how each variety grows after a long storage appear clearly in the late forcing trial.  Please come and check the bud counts, stem heights, and the possibility of leave burning and deformation.  It should help you make your plans for the next production.

定植が間近に迫り、試験農場チームの準備も大詰めです。

At the same time, the trial of 2019SH crop will start soon.  The bulbs will be planted shortly, and our test greenhouse staffs are busy for the preparation.

We will test some expected new varieties in this trial.  Please don't miss it!

８月!!! / August!!!

遅めの梅雨が明け、ついに令和最初の8月となりました。

ここ高知は、陽射しも強く暑さ厳しい夏を迎えております。

The late rainy season has finished, and the first summer in the Reiwa period has started.

We are having strong sunshine and hot temperature everyday in Kochi.

そんな8月は、弊社におきまして、物量という点において年間トップクラスの量が動く月となっております。

この時期の出荷担当は、県内納品、県外発送、解凍、ﾁｬｰﾀｰ発送、入荷・検品の全項目において物量が増加することになりますので、特に効率よく進める必要があります。

August is the busiest month in a year for us in the point of the amount of arrival and shipping.

The shipping work in our company in this season needs to be done even more efficiently because of the increase in all delivering to the customers in Kochi by ourselves, shipping to outside of Kochi, defrosting service, charter shipping by trucks, and arrival of bulbs and quality checking.

尚、お盆も目前となっております。弊社内はもちろん、各配送業者様等も混み合うことが予想されます。

発送・解凍等のご指示は、余裕を持った段取りをしていただけますことをお願いいたします。

Obon week is coming very soon.  As well as our company, the transport companies will be very busy.  Please give us your shipping instruction earlier than usual to receive your bulbs in time.

時に、冷蔵庫は涼しくていいなー！という声を耳にすることもございます。
こちらは庫内で防寒着を着用する坂本。冬場は内外の温度差も少ないので、防寒着を着て庫外での活動もできますが夏場は、着脱が必須となります。
この時期の冷蔵庫は、多忙に加えて、出入りの際の温度差への対応と、本当に出荷担当は大変なのでございます。
We sometimes hear people saying that working in our cooling warehouses should be cool and comfortable.

The photo above is Sakamoto putting his cold protection suit in the warehouse.  He can keep wearing it inside and outside in winter when the temperature gap is small, but he needs to keep putting on and taking off every time in summer.

The warehouse staffs are working really hard for not only a lot of works , but also managing the temperature difference between inside and outside.

さて、絶賛！酷暑試験中の試験農場です。

速いものは、分枝が始まっているものもございます。

The next news is from our test greenhouse in which the heat resistance trial is going.

Some fast varieties have already started branching.

現在、土木や建築といった現場仕事における暑さ対策の定番“空調服”。

ついに、弊社試験農場でも、空調服を導入した者を発見いたしました。

Special clothes which have fans to make air stream and keep inside cool to prevent heatstroke are popular among people in civil engineering and construction in Japan.

We finally found it in our test greenhouse, too.

百聞は一見に如かずということで、オカモトも試着させてもらいました。

感想としましては、入ってくる風がすでに温かいせいか、思い描いていたような涼しさはありませんでした。

快適性というよりも、まさに熱による健康被害から身を守るという装備なのだという印象を受けました。

本当に、この時期の試験農場は大変なのでございます。

I asked him and tried it on myself.

I learnt that it was not cool than I expected because the air made by the fan was already warm.

I thought that it was not for the comfort, but for saving life from the severe heat.

Well, working in the greenhouse is so hard in this season.

今回ご紹介しました通り、中村農園には、暑さ対策をしなければならない試験農場と、寒さ対策をしなければならない冷蔵庫があり、それぞれに対策をしながら業務にあたっております。

当然、生産者の皆様も、ご自身にもユリをはじめとする作物にも暑さ対策をされている事と思いますが、あらためて、ご自愛いただければと思います。

そして、すばらしいアイデアやアイテム等がございましたら、オカモトに教えていただきたく思います。

In Nakamura Noen, there is a greenhouse where people need to care about the severe heat, and there are cooling facilities where people need to care about the cold temperature.

Please take care of yourselves in your greenhouses as well.

雨、雨、雨・・・。 / Rain, rain, rain...

なんだかんだで、2週間のご無沙汰をいたしておりました、オカモトでございます。

本日のブログは、まず、テッポウ(ヒノモト)の荷下ろし風景をバックに、テッポウ(オランダ産)をご覧いただいております。

It's been my (Okamoto) absence of 2 weeks.

Today's blog starts from a picture of Dutch Longiflorum flowers and the view of unloading Hinomoto bulbs in the back.

セミがすごい勢いで夏を告げているというのに、例年より3週間遅く始まった梅雨が、未だ続いている高知です。

週間予報も、1週間まるまる雨マークがついていることが多く、梅雨明けが予想されているはずの来週も、まるまる雨マークです。

と言いつつ、朝になると晴れていたりしております。

天気が読めません。

Cicadas are singing loudly to tell the coming of summer, but the rainy season is still going on which started 3 weeks later than usual years in Kochi.

When we see weekly forecasts, we often see rain signs on all 7 days.

However, sometimes the rain suddenly stops and we get short sunny hours.  It's very difficult to read the weather now.

そんな雨予報の続く中、中村農園試験農場では、酷暑試験の定植が行われました。

Meanwhile, in our test greenhouse, the bulbs for the heat resistance test were planted.

ハウスチーム飯田が完璧な振り分けを行い、その他のメンバー(山下、中山、オカモト)がそれに続いて植えていきました。

Iida from the test greenhouse team did the perfect setting, and other members (Yamashita, Nakayama, and Okamoto) followed him and planted the bulbs.

通常の3倍のスピードで植えているオカモトです。

This is Okamoto planting the bulbs at a speed which is three times as fast as usual.

完成です。

見頃は、8月末頃～9月上旬を見込んでおります。

生育の様子は、順次お知らせさせていただきます。

“ゆり人気投票”の集計結果をご報告いたします。
We’d like to report the results of “Variety Ranking Board” which we placed in “Lily Fair June”.

投票は、1人10品種（10票）、1品種１票で行いました。

4日間の投票数は、延べ11,512票。

本当にたくさんの方にご協力いただきました。

Each participant had 10 votes, and they could place 1 vote for 1 variety.

The total number of the votes through 4 days was 11,512.  We very much appreciate all the participants who joined this new event.

現在、主要品種として流通している“シベリア”や“カサブランカ”がしっかりと票を集める一方、徐々に普及している無花粉の“バンドーム”も上位に入っています。また、今回初めて栽培した“スカイマスター”も「白色オリエンタルの無花粉」ということで注目を集めました。
While the standard varieties such as “Siberia” and “Casa Blanca” got many votes steadily, new non-powder variety “Vendome” which is gradually spreading in the production and the market also won high ranks.  “Skymaster” which we tested for the first time received big attention as “white non-powder Oriental”.

花粉は「ユリらしさ」でもありますが、花弁を汚したり、手や服につくと取りづらいという煩わしさもあります。無花粉の品種はそうしたことを気にせずに、ゆりをもっと気軽に使えるキッカケになるように思います。
Pollen is one of the characteristics of lily, and sometimes it can be a difficult aspect because it stains petals, hands, and clothes.  Non-powder varieties can be a good opportunity for people to use lilies more freely not caring about such things.

八重品種の人気も高く、RL（ローズリリー）シリーズの“サマンサ”や“アイシャ”、アジアティック系の品種では“ミステリードリーム”や“タイニーダブルユー”なども人気を集めました。アンケートでも、八重咲きの花の美しさ、豪華さを評価する声が数多くありました。使い方の提案として、会場のテーブルに八重を使ったアレンジ装花を置いたことも、良い印象につながったと思います。

八重咲き品種は、ゆりは使いにくいと言われていたブーケやコンパクトなアレンジメントとの相性が良く、ゆりの用途を広げる可能性を持っているように思います。
Double varieties were popular, too.  “Samantha” and “Aisha” from Rose Lily series and Asiatic “Mystery Dream” and “Tiny Double You” won many votes.  We saw many comments about the beauty and gorgeousness of double flowers in the paper questionnaires as well.  We placed many flower arrangements of double flowers on tables in the event place to introduce the use of double varieties, and we believe that it was one of the factors of the popularity. 
Double varieties match bouquet and compact flower arrangements which have been said to be not for lilies.  We think that double varieties have potential to widen the use of lilies.

今年は「ゆりの香り」についてもご紹介していましたので、そこで圧倒的に人気のあった“ニンフ”も選ばれていました。ニンフは本当に良い香りがします。

We made an exhibition to introduce “lily’s scent” this year, and the variety which was popular in the “scent” section, “Nymph”, got into the high position as well.  Nymph’s scent is very nice.

今回の投票では、無花粉・八重咲きの品種が特に注目される結果となりましたが、流通が始まったばかりのオリエンタルの新品種や、オリエンタルに姿が近いOTの新品種なども多くの票を集めていました。

Non-powder varieties and double varieties were especially popular according to the result, but at the same time, some of new Orientals and new OT’s which have Oriental-like shapes received attention.

これからもオランダでは、多くの魅力的な品種が開発され、登場してくるでしょう。

その中のどれを選び、どのように生産から販売、消費までつなげていくか、そこが大切です。

3年後、5年後の“ゆりの未来”に向けた取り組みを、みんなで一緒に始めませんか？

Many attractive varieties will appear in Holland and come to Japan from now on, too.

It is important to decide what to choose from those new varieties, and develop the flow through production, sales, and consumption.  Let’s start to move together for “lily’s future” of 3 years later, and 5 years later.

「6月のゆりの展示会」を振り返って / Looking back "Lily Fair June 2019"

先日の弊社オランダ出張報告にもありましたように、オランダの育種の現場ではオリエンタルから新しい姿のOTへと品種開発は変わってきています。また、八重咲き品種や無花粉の品種も次々と生まれ、大きな変化となりそうです。

そして、今後ますます、生産から消費までの情報の共有やスムーズな連携が重要になってくると感じています。

As mentioned in the last report of the business trip to Holland which we updated the other day, new OT varieties are increasing instead of Orientals in the breeding in Holland.  In addition, many double varieties and pollen-free varieties are coming out, and they are making a big movement.

We believe that the communication and cooperation between the people through production to consumption will be even more important from now. 

今回の展示会で実施した「ゆりの人気投票」では、延べ11,512票が投じられ、来場者それぞれの立場で511品種を「評価」し、それらの結果を見ながら、オランダ人も交えた議論が行われました。そうした中で品種の可能性や課題も多く見え、大きな手応えを感じています。

来場者アンケート中でも、最も好評だったのは「ゆりの人気投票」でした。参加された多くの方も、私たちと同じ感想を持たれたのではないでしょうか？

 "Variety ranking board" which we made for the first time this year got 11,512 votes in total.  The visitors in different positions gathered their evaluations of varieties on the board, and active discussions were held including Dutch people upon the results.

 It was a good challenge to do it because we could see new potential and things to solve about lily varieties.  

 The most popular content in the result of the visitors' questionnaires was also "variety ranking board".  We think that the visitors felt similar things to ours about this board.

　また、「ゆりウォール」や「ゆりの香りの魅力展」の反響も大きく、ゆりの迫力や魅力をより感じてもらえる良いキッカケになったように思います。

 We also received big reactions about "Lily Wall" and "Lily's scent exhibition".  We hope that they were good opportunities for the people to feel lily's power and charms.

2007年に「新しい試験農場を見てもらう」というところからスタートした展示会ですが、少しずつ栽培品種数を増やし、また、様々な企画に挑戦しながら、今年で13年目を迎えました。私たちの思いは「生産者の方に楽しんで頂きたい」「ゆり業界を盛り上げて、ゆりの良さを多くの人にもっと知ってもらいたい」に尽きます。

We started this event in 2007 to "show our new test greenhouse".  We increased the number of varieties year by year, and challenged many different things to entertain the visitors.

今後も「ゆり専門の球根会社」だからこそできる、ゆりに特化した挑戦、提案を続けていきたいと思います。ご来場いただきました皆様をはじめ、農研機構の大久保先生、世田谷花きの深川様、リリーアンバサダーの濵田様、橋田様。本当にありがとうございました。これからも一緒にゆり業界を盛り上げていきましょう。

We will keep challenging and proposing new things about lily as "a company specialized in lily".  We very much appreciate all the visitors, and also, Ms. Okubo at The National Agriculture and Food Research Organization, Mr. Fukagawa at Setagaya Kaki, and Lily Ambassadors, Mr. Hamada and Mr. Hashida.

We hope to keep working together to develop the lily industry.

「6月のゆりの展示会」が終わり、７月からは「酷暑試験」がスタートします。今年は試験区を２部屋から３部屋に増やし、OT品種を中心にテストを行います。

新しいOTも増えてきましたがおそらく、多くの品種は、高知の真夏の暑さに耐えられないでしょう。ただ、そうした中でも生き残ったいくつかの品種は、きっと皆さんのハウスの夏植えでも良い仕事をしてくれるはずです。

開花は９月ごろの予定です。見学、大歓迎です。ぜひお気軽にお越しください。

After "Lily Fair June", we start planting for "Heat resistance test" from July.  We use 3 rooms for the trial this year which is 1 room more than last year, and we will test mainly OT varieties.

We have many new OT varieties now, but we estimate that most of them won't resist the severe heat of Kochi.  However, we also believe that some of them will show interesting results, and they will perform well in your greenhouses in summer, too.

The blooming will be in September.  Please come and check the growth.  We hope to see you at our greenhouse soon!
