いよいよ年末。
花き業界の皆様は、毎日忙しい日々をお過ごしかと思います。

This year is in the very last part.
The people in the flower industry must be having very busy days every day.
It's getting colder and colder, so please take care of your health.


さて、そんな中、先日は高知市教育委員会の事務所にお邪魔し、ユリのカレンダーをお届けしてきました。
We visited Kochi City's Education Board, and delivered lily calendars.

オランダの育種会社、フレッター社の壁かけカレンダーです。
毎年この時期、フレッター社からこのカレンダーを送って頂いています。
いつも花の写真が美しく、このカレンダーを楽しみにしてくださっているお客様もいらっしゃいます。
A Dutch breeding company, Gebr. Vletter & Den Haan's calendars.  They arrange the calendars for us in this season every year.  
The design and photos are beautiful, so there are many customers who look forward to their calendar every year.

今回教育委員会にカレンダーをお届けしたのは、
高知市立の学校にこのカレンダーを配布してもらい、ユリの写真を子どもたちに見て楽しんでもらうためです。
この活動はこれまで、弊社がお世話になっておりますあるお客様が取り組んでこられた活動ですが、
この度弊社の広報･花の普及活動を担当する「花とひとチーム」のことを知って頂き、お声かけ頂いて参加させて頂いた次第です。
The reason why we gave the calendars to the Education Board was to ask them to deliver the calendars to public schools in Kochi City, and make opportunities for the children to enjoy lilies.
This activity has been done by one of our customers for many years.  He knew about our actions to promote lily, and he invited us to this activity.


高知市の庁舎にお邪魔し、高知市教育長様と高知市副市長様にお時間を頂いて、
当社の取り組みや、これからのユリ普及に関するご協力のお願いもお話しさせて頂きました。
そして、カレンダーと弊社試験ハウスのユリ切り花をお届けしてきました。
We visited Kochi's city office, and had meeting with the superintendent of education and the deputy mayor.  We talked about our promotion, and also we asked them for their help to promote flowers including lilies.

高知県は全国でも最大級のユリの生産地。
でも高知県民には、意外と広くは知られていないのも事実です。
カレンダーなどを通して、高知の子どもたちにユリを身近に感じてもらえたら嬉しく思います。
現在は弊社の近隣の小中学校に切り花を不定期でお届けしていますが、もっと広く子ども達がユリの生花に触れる機会を作れるよう、少しずつ花の輪を広げていきたいと思います。
Kochi is one of Japan's biggest production areas of lily.  However, many people who live in Kochi don't know about it.
We hope that such promotion will bring Kochi's children more opportunities to feel lilies closer.
For now, we deliver our cut lilies to schools near our office.  We'd like to expand the area to promote flowers to more children.

試験栽培は、17年オランダ産から18年南半球産へ / The main of our trial changes from 17NL to 18SH

10月下旬から開花が始まった17年オランダ産の試験栽培の開花も、残すは最晩生の品種のみとなりました。

今年は高温や台風の影響も受けながらの栽培でしたが、生育初期から県内外の多くの方に試験ハウスにお越しいただき、ありがとうございました。

Our trial of crop 2017NL which started to bloom in late October only remains the very late varieties.  

This season was a hard year for lily forcers due to hard weather such as severe heat and typhoons.

We very much appreciate all the visitors from inside and outside of Kochi who visited our test greenhouse in spite of such difficult condition. 

ハウス内は、ほぼ満開です。

Our greenhouse is almost in full bloom now.

最晩生品種の開花ももうすぐ

The very late varieties will also bloom soon.

試験ハウスでは、多い時は500近い品種の栽培を行いますが、その中にはほとんど流通せずに無くなってしまう品種も多くあります。

今回のような試験によって、少しでも多くの品種の良さを見つけて、ご紹介していけたらと思っています。

We test nearly 500 varieties when the number is big, and it includes some varieties which disappear without being sold in our market.

We hope to show you as many varieties as possible including such hidden varieties.  

赤オリエンタルもきれいな品種がたくさんあります。

「スポック」

There are many beautiful red Oriental.

"Spock"

 特に、この鮮やかな赤と白のコントラストがきれい。

The contrast of red and white is beautiful.

「ボンバスティック」は蕾も深紅。

The buds of "Bombastic" are already deep red.

17年オランダ産の試験も大詰めです。これからは、品種ごとの花持ちや花の散り方など、視点を変えて見てみると、また違った良さが見えてくると思います。

The trial of crop 2017NL is finishing soon.  It should be interesting if you see the flowers' durability or how the flowers fall in this stage. 

　

一方、となりの試験区では既に18年南半球産の試験栽培が進んでいます。

南半球産の球根もオランダ産の栽培と同様に同じ時期に定植していますので、順次開花していきます。もっとも早い品種は今月中旬頃には開花を迎え、晩生品種は来年2月中下旬ごろの開花予定です。

On the other hand, the trial of crop 2018SH is going at the next of 17NL.

In this trial, as well as crop 17NL, the bulbs were planted in the same period, so they bloom in order.

The earliest varieties will bloom in the mid December, and the late varieties will bloom in the middle or late February.

南半球産の試験は、比較の試験です。

同じ品種でもチリ産とニュージーランド産では違いがあり、どこが違うのか比較することができます。また、オランダ産では酷い葉焼けが出ていた品種が、南半球産を使った真冬の栽培では焼けてなかったり、その逆もあったりと、品種選択に直結する大切な比較もできます。

新しい品種も少しずつですが、増えてきており、見逃せません。

The trial of SH bulbs is a comparative study.  

Chilean bulbs and New Zealand bulbs are different even in same varieties.  Also, there are more discoveries which should be useful for your selection; for example, some varieties which showed bad leaf burns with Dutch bulbs don't show any symptoms with SH bulbs in winter.

You can't miss new varieties, either.

早いもので、今年も12月となりました。

12月とは思えないほど暖かい高知です。

Time flies, and it's already December now.

But it's warm now which is not like December in Kochi.

今日は、実験についてご紹介します。

Today we'd like to introduce our experiment.

ユリは、見た目のインパクトはモチロンですが、香りが強いという印象も持たれています。

そして、その香りはバラエティ豊かです。

先日の展示会では、ユリの品種ごとの香りの違いを感じていただくため、におい試験コーナーを設置させていただきました。

いかがでしたか？

Lilies have an impact of it's appearance, but also its scent is impressive as well.

And richness of the types of the scents is remarkable.

We made a place to show you the differences of scents for each variety in our event in November.  How did you think about it?

お客様から、ユリは、どこからこの香りを発しているんだ？

という声が聞こえてきましたので、実際に試してみました。

Through this exhibition, we heard someone wondering which part of the flower creates the scent. 

So, we did another experiment to check it.

今回の実験手順

①花を分解します。

②香りの展示の時同様に、瓶詰します。

③2日後香りを確認します。

This experiment's method;

1. Break flowers in pieces

2. Bottle each part as well as the previous scent experiment

3. Check the smell after 2 days

オカモトの予想！！

I, Okamoto, described my prospect in a public gambling style.

やはり、香りの元はフェロモンとかが関係してくるだろうから、雄しべか雌しべではないか？という考えを基に予想してみました。
Scent should be related to flower's pheromone, so I expected that it comes from stamen or pistil.

結果は、花びらでした。
The correct answer was, "petal"!

花びらの入った瓶以外は、ほぼ無臭でした。

All the bottles except for petal's had almost no smell.

そうなると、色と香りは関係があるのだろうか？
同じ色同士だと香りの系統が似てきたりするのだろうか？

についても調べたくなってきました。

謎は謎を呼びますね。

また、報告させていただきます。

In this case, now I'm interested in the relationship between scents and colors, and want to test if the same colored petals have similar smells.

Mystery creates mystery.

I will introduce the result if we have chance to do the experiment.
