早速ではございますが、ニュージーランド研修旅行について…。
いよいよ、ニュージーランド研修旅行が来週に迫ってまいりました。
今回の研修旅行では、弊社より社長・井上・吉村の3名が同行させていただき、お客様とニュージーランドの球根生産現場やニュージーランドの自然や文化に触れようということになっております。
I'd like to write about our study tour to New Zealand which is finally coming next week.
This time, from our company, Keigo, Inoue, and Yoshimura will visit New Zealand with some of our customers. They will see New Zealand's bulb production, nature and culture.
そこで、ニュージーランドと言えば何だろう？という事で、調べてみました。
キウイ(鳥、果物)、ラグビー、蜂蜜、そしてなんと言っても羊ではないでしょうか？
羊毛、ラム肉、放牧、人口より羊が多いなど、話題には事欠かないニュージーランドの羊事情なのです。
What do you think of when you hear the name "New Zealand"? I looked up some keywords.
"Kiwi (both bird and fruit)", "Rugby", "Honey"...... and most of all, "sheep" should be the one which most of people think of.
New Zealand has a plenty of topics to talk about sheep such as good souvenirs of wool, lamb chop, scenery of pasture, bigger number than population...etc.
And I found new thing about sheep.
The male sheep in New Zealand have poor destiny like male mantises or angler fish.
I heard that most sheep we see in New Zealand are female, and the ones which become meat for our food are male.
For male sheep, most of them are to be eaten except for few for breeding.
It might be normal in stock-farming industry, but I thought that I was lucky not to be born as mantises, angler fish, or NZ male sheep.
そして、オカモトの知らなかった羊に関する新事実。
ニュージーランドの羊も、カマキリ、アンコウのようなオスが不憫な動物だというのです。
と申しますのも、ニュージーランドで見られる羊のほとんどはメス。
ニュージーランドで食べられる羊のほとんど(こちらは全てに近いものと思われます)はオスということなのです。
オスは、一部繁殖用を残し、あとは食肉として出荷されるのだそうです。
牧畜業界全般こういうことなのかも知れませんが、カマキリやアンコウや羊のオスでなくて良かったと思ったしだいであります。And I found new thing about sheep.

ついでに、オカモト的ニュージーランドといえば
やはり映画「世界最速のインディアン」です。
これは、めちゃめちゃ足の速かったネイティブアメリカンの話ではありません。
これは、ニュージーランドの田舎に住むバート・マンローという人の実話を元にした映画です。
1920年製のインディアンというバイクをほぼ自作のパーツで作り直し、世界最速記録に挑むおじいさんの話です。
In addition, if I may to talk, the first thing I think of about NZ is a movie "The World's Fastest Indian".
It is not about a native American runner who was really fast.
The story is based on a true story of a man Burt Munro who lived in a country side of NZ.
He tried to make a world record of the riding speed with his motorbike called "Indian" made in 1920, which he rebuilt using his own made parts.
実際に時速300ｋｍ以上で走り、当時の世界最速記録を樹立します。
アンソニー・ホプキンス主演で、ニュージーランドを舞台にしっかりと作られた映画ですので、バイクに興味のある方も興味のない方も十分に楽しんでいただける作品だと思います。
ニュージーランドについて知れるという点でも、いかがでしょうか？
He finally reached more than 300 km per hour and made a world record.
Anthony Hopkins played Burt, and the stage and background of the movie are designed very much like NZ. I think that it is interesting no matter whether you like motor sports or not, and also it's a good movie to know about NZ.
